EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Superior Housing Authority is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Executive Director. The agency and its nonprofit Strategic Housing Agency functions with a staff of 26 employees and is governed by a 5-member Board of Commissioners. SHA administers in the Superior, Wisconsin and Duluth, Minnesota area 184 housing choice vouchers and VASH vouchers, 260 public housing units, 200 project based rental assistance units, 50 HOME units, 476 LIHTC units, and 32 supportive housing units for the homeless. All public housing units are being converted to RAD. The Park Place development will seek LIHTC funding. The agency also provides property management services for private owners. The annual operating budget is $4 million. Resident satisfaction surveys completed in conjunction with the preparation of a strategic plan indicated very high satisfaction with the management of public housing (85%) and housing choice vouchers (84%) and the maintenance of public housing (84%).
Superior, Wisconsin is situated in the northwest tip of the state and abuts Lake Superior. The community and region that also includes Duluth, Minnesota is known as Twin Ports and has a strong maritime history and economy that results in transportation and shipping being the major employment sector. The 2020 population of Superior is 26,751 and combined with Duluth the two communities have a population of 86,697. Two colleges (University of Wisconsin at Superior and Northwood Technical College) serve the community. The access to Lake Superior, two surrounding rivers and many lake areas including the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area provide an abundance of boating, fishing, and other recreational opportunities. Superior is accessible to the Atlantic Ocean via the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway.
The candidate must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, urban/ regional planning, urban studies or a closely related field. The candidate must also have seven years of executive or management experience, with at least five years of progressively responsible experience leading or managing public housing authorities, governmental agencies, nonprofits, or for-profit providers. However, candidates with exceptional academic or experience backgrounds that compensate for an academic or experience deficiency may still be considered.
Compensation for the position is negotiable, depending on the qualifications and salary history of the candidate.
